What are Cascading Goals?
Cascading goals are a way to align goals in Lattice. For example, employees can use cascading goals to align their personal initiatives with the success of the entire organization. You can also use cascading goals to align company goals with department goals.
Note: If you were a Lattice user before the cascading goals functionality was launched, you will want to reach out to Customer Care to enable this feature.
Enabling Cascading Goals
Once cascading goals have been turned on, you will be able to align your goals by completing the following steps:
Step 1: Select the Admin icon at the bottom of the discovery navigation.
Step 2: Click on "Goals" and then "Settings."
Step 3: Scroll down until you reach "Cascading Goals" and click "Enable."
Step 4: If everything looks good, click on "Enable cascading goals."
Configuring Optionality for Cascading Goals
Once cascading goals have been enabled for your organization, you will be able to further customize goal settings so cascading goals are either required, or optional.
To edit these settings, you will need to:
Step 1: Access the Admin page in the Discovery Navigation
Step 2: Select "Goals"
Step 3: Select "Settings" beneath Goals.
Step 4: Scroll down to the "Customization" section and select "Show section"

Required will not allow goal creators to publish goals without aligning to a parent goal first.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Can I (the admin) disable cascading goals?
Cascading goals cannot be disabled by Lattice admins. To disable cascading goals, please reach out to the Customer Care Team through chat or email at email@example.com.
Q: What happens to cascading goals if the feature is disabled in your account? Will the relationship between aligned goals remain intact?
A: Disabling the cascading goals feature after goals have been aligned will break the relationship between parent and child goals. Depending on the extent of the alignment, child goals and their corresponding key results may be converted into the top-level parent goal's key results. Therefore, we do not recommend disabling this feature after it's turned on.
Once you disable cascading goals, you will not be able to align parent and child goals, and you will no longer have the cascading tree view on your Goals Explorer page.
