Create a Compensation Cycle: Promotions

A
Written by Adam Kroboth

The Promotions page of a compensation cycle setup allows admins to indicate which individuals are going to be promoted via this cycle.

Promotions can be added by these options:

  1. Individually via the Promotions table.

  2. Bulk uploaded via CSV.

  3. Import from a connected review cycle with Promotion nominations.

Add individual promotions via the Promotions table

Note: An employee must be made eligible in the cycle to receive a promotion.

  1. Select Edit next to an eligible employee.

  2. Add a new Job title for the employee.

  3. Decide if the employee should be promoted to a new compensation band.

    • Compensation bands are optional for promotions. If a compensation band is provided, you will have the option on the Budget page to provide raise guidance for promoted employees based on placement in their new compensation bands. Selecting a compensation band here will not automatically update an employee’s compensation band assignment or Grow track elsewhere in Lattice.

    • Upon opening the Promotion modal, you can select a new compensation band for the promoted employee. Use the following fields to match the employee to the correct compensation band:

      • Job function (required)

      • Job type (required)

      • Job level (required)

      • Job title

      • Pay zone (optional)

      • If you prefer to promote an employee without assigning them to a new compensation band, uncheck Select a new compensation band before proceeding.

  4. Select the employee's new pay type:

    • Hourly

    • Salary

    • No change

  5. Select Add promotion.

Bulk update eligibility or promotions

Admins can make bulk changes to the participants by uploading a CSV.

Note: Promotions can only be bulk uploaded during the initial Compensation cycle setup.

To upload a CSV:

  1. Select Upload Promotions.

  2. Download the Promotion Decision CSV template.

    • Optionally, download the prefilled Compensation Bands Reference CSV to use as a reference to assign employees to their new compensation bands upon promotion.

  3. Under the Status column, add whether employees can or cannot receive a compensation adjustment by inputting eligible, ineligible, or hidden.

  4. Under the Promotion Decision (Y/N) column, bulk add promotion decisions by inputting Y or N for each employee.

  5. (Optional) To assign promoted employees to new compensation bands, fill in the following:

    • New Job Function

    • New Job Type

    • New Level

    • New Location (if applicable)

  6. Upload the updated CSV.

  7. Select Save.

Import promotions from reviews

Admins can select to import approved promotion nominations from a connected review cycle.

Note: The review cycle must be selected in the setup phase of the cycle. Once a review cycle has been connected, you can import promotions in the Compensation cycle setup and also once the cycle is active.

To import approved promotion nominations:

  1. Cycle setup: On the Ratings page of your draft compensation cycle, select a completed review cycle that includes promotion nominations.

  2. In the Promotions page select View approved promotions.

  3. Review which employees will be added or skipped.

    • Added employees: Approved nominations for eligible employees in the cycle.

    • Skipped employees: Marked ineligible or hidden in the cycle.

  4. Confirm by selecting Import.

  5. The imported employees will now be marked as Yes in Promotions.

  6. (Optional) To assign promoted employees to new job titles or compensation bands, click Edit within the promotions table and fill in the following:

    • New Job Title (optional)

    • New Job Function

    • New Job Type

    • New Level

    • New Location (if applicable)

When promotions are imported from Reviews:

  • Only approved promotion nominations are included.

  • Pending and declined nominations are excluded.

  • Existing promotion entries are not overwritten. Any manually entered information, including job title, compensation band, and other promotion details, remains unchanged.

  • If your Compensation cycle is active, any new promotions may affect your budget.
