When an Update is due, the Lattice Slack App may send you a direct message with a draft of your Update. You can review, edit, and submit the draft from Slack or open it in Lattice.
Lattice remains the system of record. Your Update is not submitted until you select Submit.
Before You Start
To receive an AI-drafted Update in Slack:
Your organization has enabled the following:
Lattice AI
Lattice AI Agent
Update Drafts
Lattice AI Agent in Slack
You have individual access to the Lattice AI Agent.
You have Updates enabled by your manager or admin.
Your Slack email address matches your Lattice email address.
Lattice Slack app notifications are turned on.
Note: Available context may vary based on your organization’s settings and any connected data sources. You can still edit the draft before submitting it.
Feature Overview
The Lattice Slack App helps employees and managers complete supported performance workflows in Slack while Lattice remains the system of record.
For Updates, you can:
Receive an AI-drafted Update.
Refine an Update with the Lattice AI Agent.
Read Updates.
Write an Update.
The AI agent can draft and edit your Update, but it never submits the Update for you. Your manager gets your Update only after you select Submit or reply “submit” in the thread.
Receive an AI-Drafted Update Draft in Slack
The Lattice Slack App sends the draft as a private direct message to the person who has an Update due. It does not post the draft in a Slack channel, and your manager does not receive the draft message.
You receive the draft on the last day of your Update cadence, at the time your admin sets in the Updates schedule settings. If you already submitted your Update for that period, you will not receive a reminder.
If Lattice can create a draft, the message includes each Update question and a suggested response. If Lattice does not have enough information to answer a question, it will say, “I didn’t have enough information to answer this question.”
The message includes the following options:
Submit: Sends the Update to Lattice.
Edit in thread: Lets you tell the Lattice Slack app what you would like to change. You can also reply directly in the message thread to refine the draft.
Open in Lattice: Opens the same Update draft in Lattice.
Connect apps: Available when you have work accounts available to connect.
Note: Updates submitted from Slack are always private between you and your manager. To create a public Update, use Lattice.
Edit or Submit Your Draft
Review the draft before you submit it, and keep the whole conversation in the message thread. The AI agent always replies in the thread and works best when your edits stay there.
Select Edit in thread, or reply in the message thread.
Tell the Lattice Slack app what to change. Add context that only you know, and make sure the draft accurately represents your work.
Review the updated draft.
When it is ready, select Submit, or reply “submit” in the thread.
After you submit, Slack confirms that your manager received the Update. The action buttons change to show the submission time and a link to the Update in Lattice.
If you do not want to submit the draft, do not select Submit. You can return to it in Lattice instead.
Continue Editing in Lattice
Lattice saves the latest version of your draft as you edit it in Slack. You can open the draft in the Lattice web app and continue editing it there.
Lattice does not submit the Update automatically. Review the draft and select Submit when you are ready.
Share Sentiment with Your Update
If your organization has enabled sentiment, Slack asks how you are feeling that week after you submit your Update. You can select Awful, Poor, Neutral, Good, or Great, and optionally add a comment.
Your manager can see your sentiment with the Update.
Update Reminders in Slack
For employees who use the Lattice Slack App, the AI-drafted Update replaces the existing Slack Update reminder. Other Lattice Slack App notifications remain unchanged. If your organization turns off the Lattice AI Agent in Slack, you receive the standard Update reminder instead.
The Lattice AI Agent in Slack follows your existing Slack notification settings. If you turned off Lattice Slack App notifications, turn them back on to receive Update drafts. If you cannot change these settings, contact your admin.
If There Is Not Enough Information for a Draft
If Lattice does not have enough information to create a draft, Slack sends a message titled “Not enough data for your Update.”
You can:
Reply in the message thread to write the Update with the Lattice Slack app.
Select Connect apps to connect available work accounts.
Select Write in Lattice to create the Update in Lattice.
Connecting an account does not create or submit an Update. You always review and submit your Update yourself.
Connect Work Accounts
Connected work accounts are optional and can give Lattice more context for future Update drafts. If your organization allows it, you can connect your own work accounts. You authorize each one yourself, and Lattice does not automatically connect to or read third-party data.
You can connect accounts in these places:
In Slack: Select Connect apps in the welcome message or in an Update draft message. Lattice opens in your browser to complete the connection.
In Lattice: Go to Manage Settings > Connectors, or select Add Connectors in Updates.
For help connecting or managing your accounts, see Connect Your Work Accounts to Lattice. For information about data access and permissions, see Productivity Connectors: Data and Permissions.
If Submitting Does Not Work
If Slack cannot submit your Update or save sentiment, open the Update in Lattice to finish the process.
