Use the Lattice Slack App to find, create, and update goals you have permission to access.
Before you start
Your organization must have Goals enabled.
Your organization has enabled the following:
Lattice AI
Lattice AI Agent
Lattice AI Agent in Slack
Your existing Lattice permissions determine which goals you can view, create, and edit.
Feature Overview
Employees and managers can use the Lattice Slack App to:
View goal data
Create goals
Update supported goal details
Every goal creation or goal update requires your clear confirmation before Lattice records it. The Lattice Slack App does not publish changes automatically.
Ask Lattice about goals
Start a direct message with the Lattice Slack App and ask a question.
For example, you can ask:
“What are my goals?”
“Show me goals due this quarter.”
“Summarize the goals my team can access.”
Continue the conversation in the same Slack thread to answer follow-up questions, review the proposed action, and confirm or cancel it.
The Lattice Slack App only shows goals you have permission to view.
Create a goal
You can create individual, department, and company goals through the Lattice Slack App.
When you create a goal, provide the details Lattice needs, including:
Goal title: “Get promoted by the end of the year.”
Goal owner: You or another employee you have permission to create goals for, such as a direct report.
Goal type: Qualitative or quantitative.
Due date
You can also provide additional details, such as:
Publication status: Draft or published.
Privacy: Private or public.
Description: “Build the skills and demonstrate the performance needed for promotion.”
Goal cycle: “2026 annual goals.”
Alignment: Align the goal with a department or company goal.
Quantitative target: “Reach a customer satisfaction score of 90%.”
Tell Lattice whether you want to create the goal as a draft or publish it.
Note: You cannot create goals for employee groups through the Lattice Slack App. Managers can create goals for other employees only when their existing Lattice permissions allow it.
Edit a goal
You can ask Lattice to update supported details for a goal, including:
Title
Description
Start date or due date
Owner
Goal cycle
Privacy settings
Alignment
Quantitative targets
For example, you can ask Lattice to make a goal title more measurable, select one of its suggested revisions, and then confirm the update.
Note: Updating a goal in the Lattice Slack App does not include posting a progress check-in, changing a goal’s progress or status, or adding a comment to goal activity. Use Lattice for those actions.
Review and confirm changes
Before Lattice creates or updates a goal, it summarizes the proposed change in the conversation.
If any information is missing, the Lattice Slack App will ask follow-up questions before preparing the final summary. Review the summary and reply naturally to confirm or cancel the action. For example:
“Yes, create it.”
“Confirm the update.”
“No, cancel.”
Nothing is recorded in Lattice until you explicitly confirm. If the proposed action is incorrect, reply with the details you want to change before confirming.
Understand Goals notifications in Slack
Goals notifications continue to work separately from the Lattice Slack App conversation. These may include:
Goal update reminders
Comments or replies on goal activity
Likes on goal updates
Updates from co-owners
Notifications when you are added as an owner
Goal completion notifications
Goal cycle notifications and goal digests
Public goal creation, update, and completion posts in your organization’s configured Goals Slack channel
These notifications may include buttons or links that open Lattice. They do not become conversational goal-management messages in Slack. Your organization’s notification settings continue to apply independently.
Troubleshoot Goals in the Lattice Slack App
If Goals are unavailable, confirm that your organization has enabled Goals, Lattice AI, the Slack integration, and the Lattice AI Agent in Slack.
If you cannot find a goal, check that you have permission to view it in Lattice. Including the goal owner, title, or due date in your question may also help.
If Lattice cannot create or update a goal, confirm that you have the required permissions and have provided the required goal details.
If Lattice proposes the wrong action, correct the details in the conversation before confirming.
