Bring Goals into your review template for an objective evaluation
This article covers the following topics:
Before you start
Lattice gives you the ability to configure review templates so that reviewers answer questions about goals owned by the reviewee.
Please note that if an employee creates a goal after the review cycle has launched, that goal will not be included in their template. If an employee updates a goal created before the launch of the review with new progress after the reviews launches, that update will be reflected in the review.
To include goals that were not pulled into the review cycle at launch, update the goal to fit the criteria of your goal template. Then, remove and re-add the reviewer of the review direction with the goal enabled template. For example, if your goal template is in the downward review, you will need to remove and re-add that person's manager as a downward reviewer. Please make sure to save any drafted/submitted responses within that review before removing the reviewer, as their review will be deleted upon removal.
Only the top-level goal will be pulled into the review cycle. This means that if an employee is the goal owner of both an objective and a key result (with cascading) the key results will not be a standalone question and Lattice will only pull in the objective. However, the key results will be visible using the collapsable option within the review.
For more information, check out Best Practices: What To Know Before Using a Goal-Enabled Review Template.
Additionally, if a late reviewee is added to the Review Cycle, the goals pulled in will be based on when they were added into the Review Cycle. Not when the Review Cycle was initially launched.
Configure the template
First, create a review template and configure it to include goals.
Step 1: Create a review template.
Step 2: Set up your non-goals-related questions as normal.
Step 3: Use the toggle button to Include goals in this template.
Step 4: Customize the wording of the question you want to ask about goals, and choose how you want reviewers to respond.*
*The available response types are the same as non-goals questions: rating, multiple-choice, and comment.
Selecting Ended goals will include goals with statuses of both Complete and Incomplete in the review.
Assign your goals-enabled template to the desired review groups as you're setting up the review cycle.
Step 1: Create a review cycle.
Step 2: Apply your goals enabled template for the desired review groups by selecting it in the dropdown menus on the Reviewers page.
Templates including goals have the label Goals enabled in the drop-down menu.
Reviewers will answer your goals-enabled question about every goal owned by the reviewee that meets the template conditions (active and/or ended within the past 52 weeks).
Use the arrow underneath the status badge to show the due date and expose the See updates button. That will open the goal profile in a separate tab where you can refer to the timeline for more information about each update to the goal and when they occurred.
