To keep a check-in focused and effective, consider spending time discussing your confidence level in a goal or OKR instead of the current progress. Progress (the completion percentage of an objective or key result) tells us what has happened, whereas confidence tells us what will happen.
Looking at confidence levels will help you keep your goal check-ins focused, and allow you to ask some simple and actionable questions:
- What is the confidence level of this goal or OKR?
- If “Some Risk” or “Off Track”: What can we do to get back on track?
- Who owns the next step?
Customizing goal status
In Lattice, you can customize the different status labels associated with a red, yellow, or green indicator for your objectives or key results. Learn more in How to Customize Goal Status Definitions.
Here are some options for labeling those statuses to allow for confidence scoring of your goals or OKRs.
Option 1:
- On Track - We are confident we will achieve this
- Some Risk - There are some obstacles to overcome, but we can still achieve this
- Off Track - A significant issue will prevent us from achieving this if we don't change course
Option 2:
- High Confidence - We are confident we will achieve this
- Medium Confidence - There are some obstacles to overcome, but we can still achieve this
- Low Confidence - A significant issue will prevent us from achieving this if we don't change course
