Set up Lattice MCP with ChatGPT

Written by Adam

Admin Set up

These steps must be completed by an administrator before members of your organization can connect Lattice MCP to ChatGPT.

In Lattice

  1. Go to Admin > Platform > MCP Integrations.

  2. In the dropdown, next to ChatGPT, select Allowed.

In ChatGPT

This requires a workspace Owner or Admin. Apps are disabled by default for the workspace.

  1. In ChatGPT, go to Workspace settings > Apps.

  2. Open the Directory tab.

  3. Find Lattice and select Enable on its listing.

  4. Configure any available app settings during enablement.

  5. When prompted, assign which roles can access the app.

  6. Select Publish.

Grant access to your organization:

  • During enablement you choose which roles can use the app. You can revisit this later under Workspace settings > Apps by opening the app's menu and selecting User access.

  • To manage app access by custom role, go to Workspace settings > Permissions & roles > Custom roles, select a role, find the Connected data section, and turn on Allow members to use apps, then select Lattice.

  • Members can browse the app directory, but they can connect only to apps an administrator has enabled.

Individual Set up

Once an administrator has configured and published the Lattice MCP app, you can connect your own Lattice account to ChatGPT.

In ChatGPT

  1. Open the Lattice app from the app directory.

  2. Select Connect.

  3. Review the requested permissions, then select Continue to Lattice.

In Lattice

  1. Enter your Lattice subdomain and select Continue.

  2. Log in to Lattice.

    1. View employee information via MCP

    2. View feedback via MCP

    3. View goals via MCP

    4. View Grow competencies and tracks via MCP

    5. View and write meetings via MCP

    6. View and write performance reviews via MCP

    7. View and write updates via MCP

  4. Select Authorize to grant these permissions.

Back in ChatGPT

  1. Return to ChatGPT.

  2. Verify the app shows as connected.

  3. You can now begin chatting with your Lattice data.

Set up Lattice MCP with Codex

Setting up Lattice MCP in Codex should follow similar steps outlined above. Check Codex's instructions for specific steps.

Troubleshoot missing new tools

Lattice continuously updates its MCP Tools list. Newly added tools may not be immediately available and may require you to refresh or reconnect your MCP connection.

For general troubleshooting, see Troubleshoot missing MCP tools or permissions. The steps below are specific to ChatGPT.

Lattice plugin

If you connected Lattice from ChatGPT’s official plugin listing, below are the steps to reconnect:

  1. Go to Settings > Plugins or Settings > Apps.

  2. Find Lattice.

  3. Select Disconnect.

  4. Select Connect again.

  5. Complete the authorization flow.

  6. Start a new conversation and try the tool again.

Custom Lattice MCP app

If your organization added Lattice as a custom MCP app through Developer mode, follow the steps for your ChatGPT plan.

Enterprise and Edu

An administrator can refresh a published custom MCP app to retrieve newly added tools or updated action definitions.

  1. Open Workspace settings.

  2. Go to Apps.

  3. Find the Lattice MCP app.

  4. Open the menu next to the app.

  5. Select Action control.

  6. Select Refresh.

  7. Review the newly detected actions and any changes to existing actions.

  8. Enable and publish the actions that should be available to members.

  9. Start a new conversation and try the tool again.

New actions are disabled by default until an administrator reviews and enables them.

Business

Published custom MCP apps cannot be edited after they are created. An administrator must recreate and republish the app to retrieve newly added tools.

  1. Go to Apps > Create.

  2. Enter the Lattice MCP endpoint again.

  3. Select Scan Tools.

  4. Review the detected tools.

  5. Select Create.

  6. Publish the updated app.

  7. Start a new conversation and try the tool again.

Individual Developer mode users

If Developer mode and custom MCP apps are available for your account, remove the existing app and add it again.

  1. Go to Apps.

  2. Find the Lattice MCP app and select Remove.

  3. Select Create.

  4. Enter the Lattice MCP endpoint again.

  5. Select Scan Tools.

  6. Review the detected tools.

  7. Select Create.

  8. Start a new conversation and try the tool again.

If a new OAuth permission is not taking effect

If the new tool requires an expanded OAuth permission:

  1. Disconnect the existing Lattice connection.

  2. Connect to Lattice again.

  3. Complete the authorization flow.

  4. If you use a custom MCP app, recreate the app after the MCP provider configuration is updated.

  5. Start a new conversation and try the tool again.

Changing an action’s approval setting does not grant a new OAuth permission. Approval settings control when ChatGPT asks for confirmation. OAuth permissions are granted during the authorization flow.
