How Lattice Users Can Update Names
There are several ways Lattice displays names. When you view a user as an admin, you will see four names: Legal Name, Preferred Full Name, Preferred First Name, and Preferred Last Name.
-
Legal Name is made up of 3 fields: Legal First Name, Legal Middle Name, and Legal Last Name.
- By default, these fields are managed by what is received via HRIS, CSV, or SFTP, or can be updated manually by admins in the Directory.
- This field defaults to hidden from all non-admin users, but admins can change its visibility on employee profiles by Configuring Employee Fields Custom Role Permissions.
-
Preferred Full Name is displayed across Lattice to all users anywhere an employee is referenced by their full name. This field is automatically generated by the values added for Preferred First Name + Preferred Last Name.
- Preferred First Name is also displayed across Lattice in places where only an employee's given only is referenced. For example, Lattice's homepage shows a header with "Welcome, [Preferred First Name]!"
- Preferred Last Name is used to populate a last name for Preferred Full Name.
Preferred First and Last Name fields are editable by the employee directly, regardless of whether an HRIS integration backs it. Users will be prompted to set their Preferred First and Preferred Last name upon accepting their invite to Lattice, and can update these fields from the user profile details page. This allows users to control how their name should appear throughout the platform to other users and how they wish to be greeted.
