Our Vision & Approach
What is Lattice’s AI vision? We believe that AI has the unique ability to elevate – not replace – human work. Specifically within Lattice, we are committed to developing AI features that equip people leaders and managers with tools to better understand employees and drive performance more effectively.
What is Lattice committed to when developing AI tools?
- Elevate human decision-making. Our AI tools are designed to empower people leaders (not machines!) to make informed decisions with all of the information and insights they need. Lattice’s core philosophy is that AI should “elevate human decision-making,” and we selectively prioritize use cases that put humans in the driver's seat to help them make data-informed decisions.
- Protect customer data. We are SOC2 Type II Certified for Security, Confidentiality, and Availability and will continue to responsibly collect, process, and protect customer data in accordance with our Data Processing Addendum and applicable data privacy laws like GDPR and CCPA. Learn more about how we keep your data secure.
- Leverage best-in-class technology. Our applications are powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 Turbo model, well-known for its ethical and technical credibility.
- Opt-in. Customers have the option to turn on (opt-in) each AI feature on an individual basis within the feature settings.
General FAQ
- What machine-learning model is Lattice AI built on? Lattice AI is built on OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo model.
- Is OpenAI using our data for model training? No. Lattice interfaces with OpenAI via its API. By default, OpenAI does not use data submitted via its API to train or improve its models, and Lattice has not and will not opt-in to allow OpenAI to use customer data for these purposes.
- Is my organization required to use Lattice’s AI-powered features? No. Customers are not required to use any AI feature or function. You have the option to turn on each AI feature on an individual basis within the feature settings. If you choose not to activate a feature, your data will not be shared with OpenAI. For AI-powered features where users’ personally identifiable information (“PII”) will be shared with OpenAI, we’ll ask you to agree to the Lattice AI Addendum, which will be presented to you within the product.
- Is OpenAI a Lattice subprocessor? OpenAI is an optional subprocessor for certain features where users' PII is shared with OpenAI. If you opt to use AI-powered features that share users’ PII with OpenAI, we'll ask you to agree to the Lattice AI Addendum.

How are we attempting to mitigate bias within AI? Lattice AI is developed with the trusted, third-party machine learning model, OpenAI. OpenAI has established ethical and technical credibility. Learn more about how OpenAI develops safe and responsible AI models.
- We acknowledge the models we integrate with can have various biases built in. We are integrating AI into our product in a way that puts humans in the driver's seat and requires them to use their best judgment when making decisions based on any AI-generated output.
- Do not rely on Lattice AI to decide who is on or off track, who should get promoted, or be the final communicator of nuanced feedback. AI technology can help managers and employees understand large quantities of data and make informed decisions more efficiently.

Feature Specific FAQ
Engagement Insights
- Was any testing conducted in the development of the Engagement Insights feature? The Engagement Insights feature was tested internally by Lattice's Engineering Team prior to release. Lattice enabled the feature for its internal use and for a small set of beta customers. Now in general release, the feature includes a feedback mechanism for continual monitoring and improvement. All survey data remains available for review by the administrator.

How does Lattice ensure that the OpenAI model provides the appropriate insights and trends? Lattice:
- Incorporated expertise of HR leaders (from Lattice and Lattice customers) in defining the prompt we share with OpenAI;
- Pre-defines our prompt in the backend and currently do not support the ability for users to configure or adjust the prompt;
- Show the source content where the analysis came from (e.g, showing raw comments used for Comment Summarization);
- Ensures our AI analysis is reproducible (e.g., each Engagement admin will see the same AI trends for the same set of survey responses); and
- Scrubs Engagement survey results for key prompt injection terms before sharing data with OpenAI.
- As we present AI-generated content, Lattice aims to show the source content of where the analysis came from. For example, for Comment Summarization we show the raw comments and Feedback summaries, we link the raw Feedback an employee received.
