Custom role Compensation permissions allow admins to give specific employees admin-like access to Compensation.
There are two types of permissions an admin can set for custom role owners:
- Global: Permission will apply to all users
- Targeted: Permissions only apply to the subset of employees that the admin has selected for the role owner. The role member(s) will not have access to the private information of other employees that fall outside of this subset. The role member will have access to view and edit Admin-only fields for employees in the targeted group.

Global permissions
The Global permissions allow custom role owners to manage Compensation for all employees.
1. Compensation admin
The Compensation admin permission allows custom role owners to manage all compensation data.
Permissions include:
- Create, view, and edit compensation data (bands, employee pay, and compensation cycles)
- View benchmarked compensation data

Create and manage compensation cycles
- Note: To give access to compensation cycles for role owners, admins must also assign visibility to targeted compensation employee fields.
Create and manage compensation cycles: Global
To give role owners the ability to create and manage compensation cycles for all employees you must also assign visibility to targeted compensation employee fields.
To assign visibility for global role owners to view and manage compensation cycles:
- Expand Targeted permissions.
- Select all User Type filters.
- Give View and Edit access to the following Employee fields:
- Base pay amount
- Bonus plan amount
- Job function
- Job type
- Job level
- Pay zone
- Start date
- Variable pay amount

The View compensation benchmarking permission allows custom role owners to view benchmarked market compensation data.

The Configure total compensation permission allows custom role owners to configure the Total Compensation view for all employees.
Permissions include:
Targeted permissions
The Targeted permissions allow custom role owners to manage compensation for a subset of employees.
Manage compensation cycles
The Manage compensation cycles permission allows role owners to manage compensation changes for their target group across all current and past compensation cycles.
Permissions include:
- Edit compensation changes
- Export compensation changes
- Visibility into all compensation, employment, and job fields in the cycle
Create and manage compensation cycles: Targeted
To give role owners the ability to create and manage compensation cycles for their employee subset you must also assign visibility to targeted compensation employee fields.
To assign visibility for targeted role owners to view and manage compensation cycles:
- Expand Targeted permissions.
- Define the employees they should be able to view in compensation cycles via the employee filter.
- Give View or View and Edit access to the following Employee fields:
- Base pay amount
- Bonus plan amount
- Job function
- Job type
- Job level
- Pay zone
- Start date
- Variable pay amount
Custom role owner view
The custom role owner will have an admin page they can access by clicking Switch to admin. Within the admin page, they will only see the Compensation tool.
