Problem

  • I am receiving a "This email belongs to a deactivated user" error in the import log when trying to reactivate an employee

  • I am trying to reuse an email address that previously belonged to another user and am seeing "This email belongs to a deactivated user" in the import log.

Resolution

This error occurs when an email address in your import is already associated with a deactivated user in Lattice. How to resolve it depends on whether you're trying to reactivate the existing account or reuse the email address for a new employee.

  1. You are trying to reactivate an inactive employee profile

A deactivated account cannot be reactivated through an HRIS sync or CSV import without an Employee ID. To reactivate the account, either:

    1. Reactivate the employee profile directly from the Admin Directory, or

    2. Add the employee's Employee ID to the deactivated profile via CSV upload. Once the Employee ID is assigned, either:

      1. Import the employee again with an active status, or

      2. If you are integrated with an HRIS, manually trigger a sync if available or wait for the next scheduled sync.

  2. You are trying to create a new employee profile using an email address assigned to a deactivated profile

Email addresses must be unique in Lattice, so the email cannot be assigned to the new profile while it is still associated with the deactivated profile. To create the new account, either:

    1. Use a different email address for the new employee, or

    2. Update the deactivated user's email address to free up the original email, then import again.
