The Lattice Slack app allows employees to give, request, and respond to feedback requests directly within Slack. The Lattice Slack integration must be set up by a user who is both a Lattice and Slack admin. Read more in Integrate with Slack.
Tip: Set reminders in your public praise channel using Slack's reminder feature weekly or monthly to remind users to give feedback.

Navigate to the Lattice Slack app
- In Slack, start a direct message with the Lattice App.
- –OR– Navigate to the Apps section, select Lattice to open the app, and begin a direct message.
- Type and send the word Help to interact with the app.
Give public praise
Public praise given in Slack will be posted to Lattice and the public Slack channel that your Lattice admin has created. Learn more in Customize Slack Integration Channels.
There are two ways to give public feedback in Slack:
- Interacting with the Lattice Slack app
- By using the custom command: /praise
Option 1: Lattice app direct message
- Open a direct message with the Lattice Slack app.
- Type Help and hit enter to open the action menu.
- Select Give praise.
- Choose the name(s) of colleagues you would like to give praise to, and then select Write praise.
- Enter the public praise and select any company values attributed to the feedback, if applicable.
- Click Share.
Option 2: The /praise command
When using the /praise command, your feedback will be shared in the Lattice app and the dedicated Lattice praise channel in Slack, even if you choose to create and submit the command in any other Slack channel.
- In any Slack channel, use /praise followed by the Slack username of the person (or people) you want to give feedback to, followed by the content of your feedback.
Example: /praise @jack @jacob Thank you for all of the work that you did on that customer presentation! We have 10 new referrals today as a result of all your hard work.
- Hit enter.
- (Optional) If your company has company values enabled in Slack, you will be prompted with a pop-up window to add the company values to your Slack Feedback.
- Click Submit.
Give private or manager-only feedback
- Open a direct message with the Lattice Slack app.
- Type Help and hit enter to open the action menu.
- Under Private feedback, select Give feedback.
- Choose the feedback recipients, write the feedback description, and attach any company values.
- Choose a sharing visibility.
- Note: Depending on Feedback settings set by an admin, private feedback can be sent to just the recipient or the recipient and their manager.
- Select Share.
Once the feedback is submitted, the recipient and their manager will receive an email notification and be able to view the feedback in Lattice. Learn more in A list of Notifications for Feedback.
Request private feedback
The Slack app allows you to request feedback about yourself. Requesting feedback about other employees must be done via desktop.
- Open a direct message with the Lattice Slack app.
- Type Help and hit enter to open the action menu.
- Under Private feedback, select Request feedback.
- Select either to Request feedback internally or, if enabled, Request external feedback.
- Choose who you want to ask for feedback, and add a request description.
- Choose sharing visibility.
- Note: Feedback requests can only be shared as Private or Private + manager.
Once submitted, the recipient will receive an email notification and task in their Lattice dashboard. Once they have responded to the feedback, you will receive an email notification and be able to view the feedback in Lattice. Learn more in A list of Notifications for Feedback.
Respond to feedback requests
- Slack will notify you if you have received a feedback request within the Lattice Slack app. To respond to the request, select Respond to requests.
- The request will populate – Select Give feedback to respond.
Once the feedback is submitted, the recipient and/or their manager will be sent an email notification. The visibility will always be displayed on the screen before you submit. Learn more in A list of Notifications for Feedback.
Write a Note to Self
A Note to Self is a private note about yourself or an employee only visible to you. This message allows you to write reminders to refer back to in a review cycle or a 1:1 meeting.
- Open a direct message with the Lattice Slack app.
- Type Help and hit enter to open the action menu.
- Under Extra features, select Write private note.
- Choose the employee you want the note to be about and add the description.
- Select Save.
