Admins can create a test compensation cycle to test steps before setting up a cycle for the organization. Test cycles should only include compensation cycle admins or super admins so they can be assigned as both compensation recommenders and approvers.
Create a test cycle
The steps below highlight the steps needed to ensure the cycle is not shared with non-compensation admins. For a detailed explanation of each setup page, read Create a Compensation Cycle Overview.
- Navigate to Admin > Compensation > Compensation Cycles.
- Click Create new cycle.
- Complete the Setup and Rules and Ratings pages of the cycle.
- Within the Employees page, click the Select All checkbox to the left of the table listing employees.
- Click Set as hidden.
- It is recommended to change the majority of employee status to Hidden for ease of testing the compensation cycle with a manageable number of employees.
- Hidden participants will not be notified that they are participants in the compensation cycle.
- Updates in the test cycle will not reflect in their profiles.
- Manually search and find desired test participants and update their Status to Eligible.
- Click Set as hidden.
- Complete the Promotions, Currency and Data Check pages.
- Within the Managers page, click the Select All checkbox to the left of the table listing managers, then click Exclude. This will assign all Eligible participants to the Compensation admin as a recommender/approver.
- If you would like to preview the managers' Recommender and Approver experience, toggle on only the specific managers you would like to get access to this test cycle, and reassign all employees to these individuals.
- Complete the Budget pages.
- Within the Distribution page, click Continue since no distributors will be visible because Compensation admins will be the only users distributing budget.
- Complete the Bonus and Equity pages.
- Within the Verify page, optionally add a launch notification.
- Click Launch.
Testing a cycle
Active compensation cycles
Within the All Compensation Changes section of the compensation cycle, you can interact with the admin version of the recommender table, including providing compensation adjustments for each employee in the test cycle. We recommend limiting the recipients of compensation changes to a small testing group.
The Manage cycle section allows you to view and adjust participant eligibility and budget.
Note: All compensation changes will stay within the cycle and not update employee profiles.
Ended compensation cycles
Once the test is complete, click End Cycle.
To view the compensation packet participants receive, click Share results. However, within the statement share-out preview, do not click Share to [number] recommending managers in order to prevent non-admins from seeing the results of the test.
